We all heard about what happened in Paris yesterday. It is
heartbreaking that more than 120 people lost their lives to these senseless murders.
It is infuriating that terrorist groups perverted their religion to commit
these acts –and that governments are mostly powerless to prevent them from
happening. I mourn with my city and my people. We will not be afraid, we will
not let violence dictate how we live our lives. And I hope to God we unite to
condemn terror while extending a gracious open hand to refugees (who seek
shelter from the same people who committed the attacks) and other migrants. I
hope we will not blame a whole community of people and a whole religion. And I
hope we remember those who suffer similar assaults and heartbreak on a daily
basis away from the media attention. In the midst of horror and grief we must
let light and love prevail..
Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité. Always.
